Hi, I’m Amy-Lynne.
The inspiration for this program grew from the journey my family shared with Estonia: adopting her as a senior dog, enjoying four extraordinary and love-filled years together, supporting her through diabetes and blindness, and eventually walking with her through the end of her life and her death.
During her final weeks and days, we learned to anticipate and adapt to her changing needs, finding gentle ways to support her comfort, safety, and continued connection with our family. We stayed closely connected with her veterinary team as we considered her comfort and quality of life.
Throughout that experience, I found myself leaning into my end-of-life doula skills: compassionate presence, recognizing anticipatory grief, reflecting on comfort and quality of life, and making space for each member of our family to process the journey at their own pace. The Platinum Rule helped guide me as I considered what Estonia needed and stayed closely connected with her veterinary team.
This Pet Death Doula Training Program was created because we understand how difficult and vulnerable pet end-of-life can feel, how much a supportive and understanding presence can help, and how much meaning, beauty, and connection can remain in the time we still have.
IEOLCA was founded by Amy-Lynne Mahon and Perry Metheral to make compassionate, practical end-of-life education more accessible and to prepare doulas with the knowledge, skills, tools, and resources they need to support others with confidence. Our work is grounded in respect, humility, inclusion, clear non-medical scope, and the Platinum Rule: supporting each individual and family in the way they wish to be supported.
