End-of-life doula support

An end-of-life doula offers non-medical emotional, practical, planning, legacy, vigil, and family support before, during, and after a death, complementing hospice and healthcare teams while centering each person’s wishes.

Many people come to end-of-life doula work through an inner knowing, often shaped by caregiving, personal loss, hospice experiences, bedside moments, grief work, or a lifelong desire to bring comfort to tender places.

Perhaps you listen without rushing. You notice what someone needs beneath the words they are saying. You believe the end of life deserves presence, honesty, dignity, and care. You may have wondered whether these qualities could become a more intentional way of serving others.

You do not have to have it all figured out to begin. Sometimes, the first step is simply giving yourself permission to explore.

Amy-Lynne & IEOLCA

Hi, I’m Amy-Lynne.

My path to end-of-life work grew out of a lifetime of caregiving, loss, family life, and a natural instinct to be present with people through tender and uncertain moments.

Caring for others was simply how I moved through the world. I cared for my mother at the end of her life, supported my grandmother through vascular dementia, and raised four children. As my children grew older and life opened up a little, I began to feel a growing pull to offer that care more intentionally - to be closer to people during the moments when presence matters most.

When I learned about end-of-life doulas, I knew right away that it was the path for me. I found my way into hospice volunteering, doula work, and a path that felt deeply familiar.

That same spirit shapes how I support our students. I personally read every required assignment and offer thoughtful feedback as you explore your own strengths, boundaries, judgment, and way of being with others. If something in you recognizes this path, there is room here to explore where it might lead.

Common hesitations, honest answers

Questions that often come before the next step.

Feeling drawn to this work can exist alongside uncertainty. These are some of the questions learners most often carry when they begin exploring.

What if I feel called to this work but I’m still unsure whether it is for me?

You can explore this path before you feel completely certain. Many students begin with a quiet pull, curiosity, or lived experience rather than a finished career plan. Learning more about the role, its scope, and the realities of the work can help you discover whether it fits your values and life.

Do I need healthcare, hospice, or caregiving experience?

IEOLCA learners begin from many places: nurses, caregivers, hospice volunteers, grief professionals, community members, and people completely new to end-of-life support. The program begins with foundations and builds toward practical application, so prior clinical or professional experience is not required.

What if I do not know what to say or worry I will become overwhelmed?

Those concerns are common and often reflect respect for the importance of the work. Training helps you develop language for difficult conversations, understand emotional responses, practice grounded presence, and build boundaries and self-care. The aim is to help you remain human, supported, and grounded while being present for others.

Can I complete the training around work, caregiving, family, or health needs?

Yes. The program is fully online and self-paced, with no live-session requirements or completion deadline. You receive lifetime access, so you can move through the 28 modules in a rhythm that works for your life and return to the material whenever you need it.

Will online learning still feel personal and supportive?

Yes. Amy-Lynne personally reviews every required assignment and provides thoughtful, individualized feedback. Questions are welcome throughout the program, and students consistently tell us that this personal review helps them feel seen, supported, and more confident in their learning.

What if I want the knowledge but do not plan to build a business?

A professional practice is only one possible path. Learners use this education in hospice and community service, existing healthcare or helping roles, family caregiving, grief support, spiritual care, and their own personal growth. You can shape the learning around the people and communities you feel called to support.

How much does the certification training cost?

IEOLCA offers three self-selected, honor-based tuition levels: $875, $437.50, and $262.50 USD. Every option includes the same complete program, personal assignment review, lifetime access, certification pathway, Graduate Hub resources, and 60-day satisfaction guarantee. No application or explanation is required for tuition support.

How long does the program usually take?

Plan for approximately 35–40 hours of self-paced study. There are no live-session requirements or completion deadline, and you receive lifetime access so you can move through the training in a rhythm that works for you.

What does IEOLCA certification mean?

End-of-life doula work is a non-regulated, non-medical profession. The IEOLCA Certified End-of-Life Doula credential shows that you have completed IEOLCA’s education, assignment, ethics, and scope requirements. It is an organizational professional certification rather than a government licence.

What is the Platinum Rule?

The Platinum Rule means supporting people in the way they wish to be supported, rather than assuming our own beliefs, values, customs, or preferences should guide their care. It is a core part of IEOLCA’s person-centered approach.

What support will I have after certification?

Graduates receive an IEOLCA certificate, professional digital badge, complimentary Doula Directory invitation, and ongoing access to the Graduate Hub. The Hub includes fillable forms, service and pricing tools, outreach resources, client agreements, invoicing support, consultation guidance, and new resources added over time.

What if I begin and discover the program is not the right fit?

Every enrollment is backed by a 60-day satisfaction guarantee. If the program is not the right fit for any reason, a full refund is available within 60 days of purchase.

When you are ready

Your next step can be simple.

If this path feels right, you can return to the three honor-based tuition options above. Every option includes the same complete training, personal assignment feedback, lifetime access, and 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
